Cancer Treatment in Germany

German oncology sets the global standard for personalized treatment. Here, a molecular tumor profile is created for each patient, which is used to tailor targeted therapy.

Germany has 4 proton therapy centers, 2 carbon ion therapy centers, and 18 university cancer centers (NCT, CCC, ONCOMAP). More than 450,000 cancer patients are treated at German hospitals each year, including more than 12,000 foreigners.

Methods treatments

German clinics use all modern approaches, from classical to the latest personalized approaches.

Proton therapy

Spot irradiation of a tumor with a proton beam without damaging the surrounding tissue. It is used for brain tumors, eye tumors, pediatric oncology.

Carbon ion therapy

Even more accurate and effective than proton therapy. It is used for radioresistant tumors - chondrosarcoma, adenocystic cancer, melanoma.

CAR-T cell therapy

The patient's T-cells are "trained" to attack cancer cells. Breakthrough in leukemia, lymphoma - one injection gives remission in 70-90% of cases.

Immunotherapy (checkpoint)

Drugs "take the brakes off" the immune system. Pembrolizumab, Nivolumab - standard for melanoma, lung cancer, kidney cancer.

Targeted therapy

Drugs targeting specific mutations (HER2, EGFR, BRAF, BRCA). Selected based on the molecular profile of the tumor.

Robotic surgery

Da Vinci surgeries: minimally invasive, accurate to the millimeter. Quick recovery, minimal scarring and blood loss.

CyberKnife / Gamma Knife

Incisionless radiosurgery - for tumors of the brain, spine, lungs. Up to 800 beams from different directions converge at one point.

HIPEC / PIPAC

Intra-abdominal chemotherapy with heated solutions - in ovarian, gastric, appendix cancer with metastases to the peritoneum.

Types cancer

We organize treatment for all cases. The following are frequent referrals from our patients.

How's it going cure

The standard patient pathway is from initial request to return home and long-term follow-up.

  1. Second opinion on the documents

Send the discharge notes, CT/MRI scans, biopsy results. The German professor will give an opinion within 3-5 days.

  2. Molecular profile of the tumor

The clinic performs NGS sequencing of the tumor to detect mutations. This is the basis for personalized therapy.

  3. Consilium (Tumor Board)

10-15 specialists (oncologist, surgeon, radiologist, pathologist, geneticist) discuss your case and create an individualized plan.

  4. Main treatment

Surgery, chemotherapy, radiation/proton therapy, immunotherapy - according to the plan of the consilium. Usually 2-10 weeks.

  5. Control examinations

4-6 weeks after treatment - CT/MRI, tests, examination. We adjust the supportive therapy.

  6. Online surveillance from home

After returning home - online consultations with a German doctor every 3-6 months for the first 2 years.

Frequent questions

How quickly can I start treatment in Germany?
If the diagnosis is clear, we will proceed once we receive the necessary documents. Oncology patients are given priority at all of our partner clinics. In particularly urgent cases, priority scheduling is available.
Do I need to bring medical documents with me?
Originals—yes. Before the trip, we receive scans, translate them into German, and send them to the professor for preliminary planning. This saves you 1–2 weeks.
What is a "second opinion" and how much is it worth?
A written opinion from a German professor without you having to travel. From one or more independent experts.
Does insurance cover medical treatment in Germany?
Compulsory Medical Insurance (CMI) and Voluntary Medical Insurance (VMI) do not cover this. International insurers (Cigna, Allianz, BUPA) provide partial coverage. We can assist you with your insurer.
Can you help with the visa application?
Yes: an invitation from the clinic, proof of payment, Schengen insurance, and a hotel reservation. You’ll need to schedule the appointment and attend the interview on your own, following our instructions.
Already started treatment in Russia - can we switch?
Yes. German oncologists will review all the results and adjust the treatment plan. Do not interrupt your current treatment—discuss the transition with your doctor.
Is it possible to bring a chaperone?
Yes, most VIP rooms have a second bed. An accompanying person can obtain a Schengen visa based on an invitation from the clinic.
