Neurology and Neurosurgery in Germany

German neurology offers personalized diagnostics and treatment protocols for stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, and brain tumors. Access to the latest biologic medications is guaranteed.

There are 14 university neurology centers, 4 DBS centers, and 5 Category I stroke units (according to the DGN) operating in the country. The “door-to-needle” time for ischemic stroke is 22 minutes, the best in Europe.

Methods treatments

German clinics use all modern approaches, from classical to the latest personalized approaches.

Thrombectomy for stroke.

Endovascular thrombus removal - window of up to 24 hours. German Stroke Net protocol.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS).

Electrode implantation in Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia.

iMRI neurosurgery

Brain surgeries with intraoperative MRI - precise removal of tumors.

Stereotaxis Robotic Magnetic Navigation

Robotic catheter navigation for removal of intracerebral tumors and AVMs.

Proton therapy

Brainstem, pituitary, optic nerve tumors - without damage to surrounding tissues.

Multiple sclerosis treatment

Ocrevus, Kesimpta biologics, autologous stem cell transplantation (HSCT).

Epilepsy - stereo EEG + resection.

Mapping of the area of epileptogenesis followed by minimally invasive removal.

Rehabilitation after stroke

Lokomat robots, neuroplastic therapy, BCI (brain-computer interface).

Types neurology and neurosurgery

We organize treatment for all cases. The following are frequent referrals from our patients.

How's it going cure

The standard patient pathway is from initial request to return home and long-term follow-up.

  1. Transfer of documents and images

MRI, CT, EEG, video - sent to the professor. Conclusion in 3-5 days.

  2. In-person examination

Additional investigations: 3T MRI, PET, stereo EEG if necessary.

  3. Neuroconsilium

    Neurosurgeon, neuro-oncologist, neuropsychologist, physical therapist.

  4. Operation / intervention

iMRI neurosurgery, DBS, thrombectomy - as scheduled.

  5. Early rehabilitation

Lokomat, ergo and speech therapy. routinely in a hospital.

  6. Long-term support

Online consultations with a German neurologist.

Frequent questions

What to do in an acute stroke?
Call your local emergency services immediately. Once the patient’s condition has stabilized and the window for thrombectomy has passed, we will arrange for their transfer to Germany for rehabilitation.
Is DBS a safe thing to do?
Yes, over 200,000 procedures have been performed worldwide. The electrodes are safe for use with the latest generation of MRI scanners. In patients with Parkinson’s disease, the procedure results in a 50–70% improvement in motor function.
Is MS in children treated in Germany?
Yes, specialized pediatric neurology centers (Charité, Potsdam-Großhadern). Biological agents are approved for use in patients aged 12 and older.
How long does recovery from brain surgery last?
For iMRI surgeries: 5–7 days in the hospital + 2–3 weeks of rehabilitation. Return to work in 6–8 weeks.
Do you guarantee results for brain tumors?
No country offers guarantees—we guarantee the best plan available. Survival rates for gliomas in Germany are 1.5 to 2 times higher than the CIS average.
Can DBS and physiotherapy be combined?
Yes, and that is recommended. After implantation, we will arrange a 21-day course of neurorehabilitation.
Does insurance cover it?
Basic health insurance does not cover this. International health insurance provides partial coverage. Please check with your insurer.
