Medical Care for Children in Germany

German pediatric care consists of specialized clinics staffed by professionals trained specifically to work with children. Family rooms where parents can stay are standard.

There are seven pediatric university hospitals in the country. Four of them are recognized as Centers of Excellence in pediatric oncology and cardiac surgery. The wards feature play areas, and school classes are held on-site.

Pediatric Cardiac Surgery

How's it going cure

The standard patient pathway is from initial request to return home and long-term follow-up.

  1. Sending Your Records

    All reports, genetic tests, and scans. The professor's assessment within 5–7 days.

  2. In-Person Exam and Diagnostics

    Full diagnostics on the day of arrival, without long waits.

  3. Pediatric Tumor Board

    A pediatric oncologist, neurosurgeon, and psychologist discuss the treatment plan.

  4. Treatment

    Surgery / chemotherapy / proton therapy. Parents stay close — in a family room.

  5. Rehabilitation

    Occupational therapy, speech therapy, and school lessons in the hospital.

  6. Long-Term Follow-Up

    Video consultations every 3 months during the first year.

Frequent questions

Can a parent stay in the room with the child?
Yes — in children's hospitals in Berlin and Brandenburg, family rooms are the standard.
Will my child keep up with school in the hospital?
If treatment lasts longer than 4 weeks, teachers work right in the clinic — your child won't fall behind.
What about the language barrier?
All children's hospitals work with interpreters. Russian-speaking psychologists are available at Charité and in Potsdam.
Is CAR-T available for children in Germany?
Yes — Germany was among the first countries in Europe to approve CAR-T for children with ALL leukemia up to age 25.
Is proton therapy dangerous for a child?
It is far gentler than conventional radiation — the beam precisely targets only the tumor, sparing the brain and spinal cord.
Do you help with visas for the whole family?
Yes — we arrange humanitarian visas for parents and accompanying family members.
Are rare diseases treated in Germany?
Yes — Potsdam and Brandenburg an der Havel have dedicated centers for rare diseases.
