German Heart Center Berlin

One of Europe's largest cardiac centers—the world's largest artificial heart program

The German Heart Center (DHZC) is one of the largest cardiac centers in Europe. Since 2023, it has been merged with Charité and operates across three campuses. More than 3,500 heart surgeries are performed there each year, and approximately 20,000 inpatients are treated.

The center operates the world’s largest mechanical circulatory support program (artificial heart) and is among Germany’s leaders in heart and lung transplantation. The full range of cardiac surgery: coronary artery bypass grafting, valve replacement, treatment of aortic aneurysms, and catheter-based procedures—TAVI, stenting, and ablation.

Another area of focus is the treatment of congenital heart defects in children and adults. DHZC is one of the first certified centers in Germany for the care of adult patients with congenital heart defects. Sofortmed arranges urgent consultations and the transfer of medical records to ensure a quick start to treatment.
