Why Choose Germany for Your Child's Treatment?

Germany is a world leader in pediatric medicine. Separate pediatric wards with their own operating rooms and intensive care units, specialized equipment for young patients, and multidisciplinary teams that include child psychologists and educators—all of this is the norm, not the exception. German children’s hospitals admit patients from the very first days of life.

Pediatric Cardiac Surgery

Congenital heart defects are one of the most common reasons for seeking treatment in Germany. The German Heart Center (DHZC) in Berlin is one of Europe’s leading centers for heart surgery in newborns and children. The center performs all types of corrective procedures for congenital heart defects, including the most complex, multi-stage procedures.

Pediatric Oncology

Charité is Berlin’s largest pediatric oncology program. Treatment is provided in accordance with the protocols of the German Society for Pediatric Oncology and Hematology (GPOH), which ensure some of the best survival rates in the world. All types of therapy are available: chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, bone marrow transplantation, and surgery.

Pediatric Orthopedics and Neurosurgery

Scoliosis, hip dysplasia, clubfoot, congenital deformities—German pediatric orthopedists use both conservative methods (bracing, the Ponseti method) and surgical procedures (scoliosis correction, osteotomies). Helios Klinikum Emil von Behring has a pediatric orthopedics department.

Organizational Characteristics

Treating a child abroad always involves the whole family. German hospitals allow one parent to stay in the hospital room with the child (rooming-in). To obtain a visa, a notarized power of attorney from both parents (or a court order regarding custody) is required. If the child is under 14 years of age, they can be included in the accompanying parent’s passport or travel on their own international passport.

Sofortmed and Young Patients

We understand that treating a child is a special responsibility. Sofortmed selects a pediatric specialist (rather than an “adult surgeon who also operates on children”), arranges for the entire family to stay near the clinic, provides an interpreter who is skilled at working with children, and coordinates every step—from the initial consultation to the follow-up examination after returning home.
