The main myth is that medical treatment in Germany is prohibitively expensive. In reality, the cost is comparable to that of leading private clinics, and in some cases is even lower than at private Russian medical centers. At the same time, Germany has a transparent pricing system that is regulated by law.
Inpatient care is billed using the DRG (Diagnosis-Related Groups) system—each diagnosis and procedure corresponds to a fixed rate, multiplied by the hospital’s coefficient. This means that for the same surgery, the price at a university hospital and a municipal hospital may differ by 20–30%, but not by a factor of several times. Outpatient care is billed according to the GOÄ (Gebührenordnung für Ärzte) fee schedule, where each procedure has a code and a base rate. The doctor may multiply the base rate by a factor ranging from 1 to 3.5, depending on the complexity of the procedure.
Before treatment begins, the clinic prepares a preliminary estimate (Kostenvoranschlag) based on your documents. This is not the final price, but rather a rough estimate. The final bill may be higher if additional procedures are required (such as a longer hospital stay or intensive care), or lower if treatment is completed sooner than planned.
Check-up (basic) — starting at 1,500 euros. Joint replacement — starting at 12,000 euros. Heart bypass surgery — starting at 20,000 euros. Brain tumor removal — starting at 15,000 euros. Laser vision correction — starting at 1,000 euros per eye. Dental implants — starting at 2,500 euros per implant. Rehabilitation—starting at 3,000 euros for 2–3 weeks. Airfare, lodging, transportation, and an interpreter must be added to the cost of treatment.
We request preliminary cost estimates from several clinics, help you compare them, and choose the best option based on price and the specialist’s qualifications. We coordinate payment (most clinics accept bank transfers), assist with VAT refunds for medical services when leaving the EU, and alert you to any potential additional costs in advance.
Thank you! We will call you back shortly.
